Have another day of sunshine

- London

- After a mini heatwave in the UK, ANOTHER DAY OF SUN can prove a topical winner of the New Forest Farm Machinery/John Deere Novice Auction Stakes at Salisbury today.

Mick Channon’s colt had worked beautifully ahead of his debut at Goodwood but inexperience found him out and he wasn’t given an unnecessarily hard race.

That sympathy from the saddle served him in good stead when on his next outing at Thirsk he readily delivered the goods after being backed in to odds-on.

Channon never calls his geese swans and I know he has a healthy regard for Jim Crowley’s mount who has scope for abundant improvement.

ON TO VICTORY can further the general good all round form of Eve Johnson-Houghton’s Blewbury team with a triumph under joint top weight in the Whitsbury Manor Stud Bibury Cup Handicap.

The hooded selection looked a shade unlucky not to get up and deny Frontispiece in a better race than this at Sandown last time after getting blocked in his run.

He therefore qualifies as the proverbial winner without a penalty in one of the most historic races at this popular country track.

Andrew Balding saddles BERKSHIRE ROYAL and Macaque in the Whitsbury Manor Stud EBF Stallions Blagrave Maiden Stakes.

Both these newcomers have shown promise in their work at Park House Stables but Berkshire Royal could prove the more forward at this stage and is worth Eachway support in a fascinating opener.
