Stormers wary of improved Cheetahs

- Rudolph Jacobs

The Stormers are bracing themselves for a much-improved Cheetahs Super Rugby outfit when they meet this afternoon in Bloemfontein.

Not only is it the first clash since the international break, but Stormers coach Robbie Fleck believed the Cheetahs are a much improved side since they smashed them 53-10 in Cape Town earlier in the competition.

“They were very competitive overseas and while the pressure is off they could play with a lot more freedom,” he said.

Fleck also pointed out that they have struggled down the years in the City of Roses: “We don’t have a good track record there and I think from the last four outings we only managed to win one.”

One player who would be eager to get a proper run is wing Dillyn Leyds (left) who earned three Bok caps off the bench in the recent series win over France.

“It was an awesome experience to be part of the Bok squad and to be able to pull off a 3-0 series win, but now it’s back to the Super Rugby business,” he said.

Kick-off: 3.05pm.
