Defending GTC champ Stephen will try to keep Bonafede at bay. PREMIER RACING LEAGUE CONTESTS ROUND 11 AT KILLARNEY

South Africa’s premier motorsport show will perform at a coastal circuit for the final time this year on Saturday (September 9). The occasion will be round 11 of the 2017 Extreme Festival, with seven categories, on four and two wheels, taking to the Western Cape Killarney racetrack.

Top billing on the day will belong to the Sasol Global Touring Car categories, with this year’s overall title chase balanced on a knife-edge.

Going to Killarney, defending GTC champion Michael Stephen (Engen Xtreme Audi) will enjoy a marginal points lead over Gennaro Bonafede (Sasol BMW).

The two drivers should continue their season-long duel, with little to choose between them in terms of pace.

Others, able to interfere with the fight, must include Simon Moss (Engen Xtreme Audi), Robert Wolk (Sasol BMW), Johan Fourie (EPS Couriers BMW), Volkswagen Motorsport Jetta drivers Mathew Hodges and Daniel Rowe, plus Michael van Rooyen (RSC BMW).

The GTC2 category should see a continuati­on of a fight for superiorit­y between VW and MINI.

Heading the VW challenge will be Keagan Masters and Mandla Mdakane in their factory VW Golf GTI entries, facing off against Bradley Liebenberg (Ferodo MINI JCW) and Chris Shorter (Champion MINI JCW).

Others fighting for podium places will include Trevor Bland (TB VW GTI), Charl Smalberger (Indy Oil VW Golf GTI), Trevor Bland (TB VW Golf GTI), Iain Stevenson (Comsol VW Golf GTI), Nick Adcock (Rico Barlow Golf GTI) and Dayne Angel (Autohaus Angel Honda Civic).

The races for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars should produce the day’s quickest lap times, with some 25 plus fast and exotic vehicles on the starting list.

Fighting for overall victories should be people like Franco Scribante (Porsche 997 T3,8), Charl Arangies (Ferrari 430 GT3), Johan Engelbrech­t (JogaJoga Porsche GT2R), Marcel Angel (Autohaus Angel Ferrari 458 GT3), Craig Jarvis (Panacea Ferrari 458 GT3), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430), Nicky Dicks (Porsche 997 GT3 Cup) and Dawie Olivier (G&H Transport BMW M3).

Championsh­ip leader Devin Robertson (Payen Polo) will be the man to beat in the Engen Volkswagen Cup races, with his closest adversarie­s to include Jeffrey Kruger (Universal Health Polo), Justin Oates (Glassit Polo), Tasmin Pepper (Campos Transport Polo), Darren Oates (Sika Polo), Clinton Bezuidenho­ut (Glyco Engineerin­g Polo) and Jonathan Mogotsi (VW Driving Academy Polo).

Single seater enthusiast­s will not be left out in the cold.

Julian van der Watt (Investchem Mygale) could clinch this year’s Investchem Formula 1600 title at Killarney, and he will be determined to win both of the day’s races.

Taking him on will be Cameron O’Connor (Mygale Ford), Alex Gillespie (ERP Trucking Mygale), Dean Venter (Desco Mygale), Andrew Schofield (Investchem Mygale), Kevin Pitzer (Mygale), Wesley Vosloo (Henkel Mygale) and Joshua Dolinschek (Mygale Ford).

Top drivers in the Hankook For- mula Vee races whould be Jaco Schriks (Cubed Coatings Rhema), Gert van den Berg (BP Nantes Rhema), Peter Hills (Lubefusion Rhema), Lushen Ramchander (Miami Products Rhema), Richard Carr (VW Rhema) and Brandon Hills (Lubefusion Rhema).

Reigning champion Sven Grune (Kawasaki ZX10) will be the Red Square Kawasaki Masters pre- race favourite, challenged by riders like Graeme van Breda (Ivid ZX10R), Jaco Gous (Central Propshaft ZX10R), Gareth Bezuidenho­ut (Kawasaki ZX10R), Sanjiv Singh (Double Apex ZX10R), Johan le Roux (Avidan ZX10R) and Brian Bontekonin­g (Mayair ZX10R).

Rounding out the day’s events will be races for Cape Midas Saloon Cars, with some 30 competitor­s to face the starter.

Front runners should include Clint Rennard (G&A Promotions Golf), Gavin Cerff (Spur BMW), Jessie Huggett Weskaap Bakwerke VW Jetta), Danie van Niekerk (Wingfield BMW E36), John Craig (Nissan Sentra Sti), Eugene Kruger (VW Golf) and Ewald Weiland (Alfa GTV 3,2).
