10 Grand Heritage numbers

-

Ten numbers you should know with regard to Saturday's WSB Grand Heritage over 1475m at the Vaal.

1 - One horse will reign supreme on Saturday afternoon. Unless there's a dead-heat of course.

9 - The age of the oldest runner lining up in this year's race. The evergreen Vulcan from the Scott Kenny stable is taking on the young guns and will be ridden by JP van der Merwe.

R10 - The entry fee at the gate. All monies will be handed over to a number of Rotary clubs within the Vaal Triangle.

19 - The saddle cloth number of the only filly in this year's race. Rouge Allure is taking on the boys and will be ridden by apprentice Mpumelelo Mjoka.

28 - Runners in the field, more than any other race in SA.

50 - The lowest allocated weight in The Grand Heritage this year. Plum British and Orapa both carry 50kg.

61.5 - The weight that Amazing Strike from the Alec Laird stable will carry as the top weight in the race.

71 - Number of entries received for the 2017 renewal of The Grand Heritage before the field was whittled down to its final number.

1475m - The distance that The Grand Heritage is run over. It results in something of a cavalry charge as the power-packed field heads down the straight at the Vaal Racecourse.

R406,250 - The portion that the winner will claim of the total R750,000 stake.
