Even Zimbabweans shocked at state of SA

We owe it to our children to secure their future, writes from Sunninghill.

his letter is being written from Zimbabwe where we are currently holidaying. Zimbabwe’s economy is in crisis due to poor leadership, with massive unemployment and insufficient funds in the banking system.

For tourists from SA, it is virtually prohibitive to tour this country, which operates on US dollars while we carry Mickey Mouse Zuma rands.

It is absolutely apparent that we in South Africa are destined to follow if misrule, poor economic policies and corruption remain on their present trajectories.

Zimbabweans, despite their woes, are totally shocked at the blatant looting in South Africa, as well as our crime problems.

People here were aghast at the recent robbery involving Dutch tourists.

In fact, foreign tourists in this country expressed a reluctance to continue their journeys to SA due to safety fears, as well as inordinate and unacceptable immigration delays at OR Tambo airport.

Race relations here are, surprisingly, better than in SA.

From here, it appears so apparent that we know who the people are that are leading us into oblivion, yet we seem totally incapable of preventing what should not be inevitable.

Surely, we can do better than that? We owe it to our children to secure their future.

Come on SA – wake up.
