While Jomo Cosmos will rue Scelo Mkhize’s injury which keeps him out of the team until next year, they will be happy to have Tebogo Tlolane back as they push for the top spot in the National First Division before the summer break.

Mkhize suffered a shoulder injury in training on Wednesday and according to the club will be out until January. The 22-year-old winger has become a critical part of the squad since joining in June, scoring four goals in 10 matches and creating several more.

But Jomo Sono will take comfort in that he has his star back as Thlolane made his first appearance of the season off the bench in the 4-1 thumping of Mbombela United last weekend.

“It was an exciting moment for me because it marked my return to football after an agonising time out on the sidelines,” said Tlolane of his return this week. “Coming back and making a positive contribution was a big plus for me. And at the current rate I’ll be taking it one game at a time in terms of my fitness level. I am however mentally prepared to play my part in our quest for promotion,” he added.

Ezenkosi will meet Witbank Spurs at Puma Rugby Stadium this afternoon in a match that could easily be the fixture of the weekend in the NFD as both teams are among the top sides and are coached by club bosses.

Siyavutha are coached by Themba Mafu who is also owner and club chairman. It is the same at Cosmos where Jomo Sono is both owner and coach.

Cosmos will however be favourites to win this as they have found their rhythm and have gone five matches without defeat – winning four and drawing one in the last five matches. Mjomane’s side made it clear they want promotion when they beat their neighbours Mbombela United 4-1 last weekend.
