- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

The South African national Under-17 women’s team managed to overcome all obstacles to claim a 5-2 victory over Botswana in the first leg of their World Cup 2018 qualifier at Lobatse Sports complex yesterday.

Five of Bantwana’s players were forced to return home after not having the necessary documents to enter Botswana.

Despite missing some of their players, the team led by skipper Kylan Jordaan fought hard to ensure they would be in the ascendancy going into the second leg.

South Africa got the first goal through Karabo Dlamini in the opening 15 minutes.

Striker Thambolinye Mzoneli then hit the second for Bantwana, but the home team quickly responded to make it 2-1.

Botswana were dealt with a major blow in their quest to find an equaliser after Tshegogatso Msotho scored an own goal to make it 3-1 for the visitors.

Coach Simphiwe Dludlu’s side came back stronger in the second half and went on to extend their lead with two more goals courtesy of Miche Minnie and Jessica Wayde.

Botswana got their second goal of the match in the dying minutes.

Bantwana look set to go through to the next round of the qualifiers as their second leg against the Botswanans at the Dobsonville Stadium on December 16 should be a mere formalilty.
