E.tv’s most popular soapie, Scandal!, recently hit a milestone with more than five million adult viewers tuning in to watch the soapie. Its gripping storyline reached an AR measurement of 14.4, which equates to 5 007 428 adult (15+) viewers.

In one of the episodes, Quinton (Brighton Ngoma) and Hlengiwe (Nunu Khumalo) ended their relationship due to sabotage orchestrated by Dintle (Mapaseka Koetle).

The show’s popular storyline, represented by the tagline “there’s always three sides to a story”, continues to resonate with viewers, keeping them hooked and allowing Scandal!’s monthly ratings to climb every month throughout 2017. This made it the most-watched show in the 7.30pm time slot across all channels.

The festive season storyline includes plenty of lies and deceit in the Langa family, headed by Hlomla Dandala, where his wives’ efforts in putting one over the other turns deadly for an unsuspecting victim.

Viewers will also be introduced to Ingrid’s mother, who makes a surprise appearance for Wesley and his daughter this month. Will the family be closer after she comes into the picture, or will they drift apart?

General manager of local content Ziyanda Mngomezulu says she is proud of the show’s extraordinary milestone.

“Scandal! has been one of the most watched shows on e.tv and we are thrilled with what it has accomplished. This milestone of over five million viewers adds to the many highlights the e family of channels has had this year, and we are looking forward to many more in 2018.”

Rhythm City, which leads into Scandal! at 7pm, also drew higher-than-usual viewers in November compared with the previous November, with 3.1 million viewers.

Scanadal! will kick off its 13th year of production in January, with three of the cast members having been ever-present: Joyce Skefu, who plays Maletsatsi Khumalo; Sandy Mokwena, who plays Eddie Khumalo; and Kagiso Modupe, who plays Mangi Nyathi.
