The Citizen (KZN)

JONTY’S PICKS

-

Maritzburg United finally found their touch in front of goal this week, as they won 4-2 at Cape Town City, though Fadlu Davids’ side no doubt also benefited from the fact that this game ended up being played in their home province.

United had scored five goals in 10 league games before they played City, meaning Tuesday’s win nearly doubled that tally, and was only their third victory of the entire Absa Premiership season. Tonight, they host Baroka FC, who are reeling after a 4-0 thumping from Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday. Baroka are tied on 19 points with Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Chippa United at the top of the table, even though Kgoloko Thobejane’s side have not won a league match since the end of September.

I expect Maritzburg to build on their midweek win tonight, and inflict more pain on Baroka. Pool name – S6 V3 P2 M1: Maritzburg United v Baroka FC. Previewed above.
