Tinkler slams side’s ‘insane’ fixture list

- Michaelson Gumede

The month of January will be one that Eric Tinkler and his SuperSport United side will want to forget quickly, as Matsatsantsa A Pitori only won one out of eight games in the Absa Premiership.

“It has been a long month, eight games in 30 days, which is insane if I must be honest. One lapse of concentration and we get punished. That’s where we’ve been sitting in the last month,” said Tinkler on the back of his side’s latest defeat, a 1-0 loss at home to AmaZulu on Wednesday night.

“When you look at our games, our biggest problem has been putting the ball in the back of the net. What we need to do now is to start scoring. We have been struggling to do that in open play. The last time we scored was through a penalty.

“At the same time you don’t want to be hammering the players for the mistakes because you already know the morale and the confidence is down.”

To remedy the challenge of misfiring in front of goal, Tinkler signed Zimbabwean striker Evans Rusike from Maritzburg United. The highly-rated 27-year-old has already banged in seven goals in the league this season. Tinkler was pleased with his debut performance.

“I thought he did well, and so did Mogakolodi Ngele when he came on. I see them providing us with what we need,” he said.

Matsatsantsa welcome ninthplaced Bloemfontein Celtic tomorrow afternoon at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
