Local fashion designer David Tlale is set to make history as he turns the Durban runway red when he abandons his signature black designs, and for the first time in his 15-year career unveils a special, once-off, collection titled RED at this year’s Vodacom Durban July.

With dramatic showmanship at the heart of Tlale’s inimitable design aesthetic, the collection, in partnership with Vodacom Red, consist of 10 unique looks.

“Traditionally red means emotion, passion and power, but in this collection I’ve played with various hues and fabrics which speak an entirely new language.

“Each look will showcase the story one tells when wearing this, the boldest of all colours,” says Tlale.

“We are hard-wired to red. There is no other colour that is so fundamental; so fused to our primal, human itch that it stops us in our tracks. I couldn’t think of a better colour for the individual who expects more.”

Putting his own twist on the term “painting the town red”, Tlale will ignite trends again on the craft of constructing a garment.

In celebration of the partnership with Vodacom, Tlale has also designed an exclusive, high quality, limited edition RED by David Tlale clutch bag specifically for Vodacom Red.

Limited to only 1 000 bags, each clutch bag is marked (for example 1/1 000) and comes in premium black leather with elegant red finishing and will be gifted to qualifying new Vodacom Red customers throughout June and July.

With the Durban July being one of the biggest and most anticipated horse races on the African social calendar, getting the perfect look has its challenges, especially in the midst of the entertainment industry’s hottest and most loved celebrities who can afford to have personalised glamour squads to plan and put together every last detail for their appearance on the day.

However, the fashion and style gods have answered your prayers and are bringing you your very own A-list Durban July glamour squad.

It consists of celebrity and fashion stylist and founder of The Bass.co.za, Siyamthanda Ndube; celebrity and campaign make-up artist Precious Xaba, and Ambience hair salon co-owner and celebrity hairstylist George Nuru, who will share their Durban July tricks and tips.
