Egg on faces of disgruntled Gauteng ANC members
An interdict application to stop this weekend’s ANC Gauteng elective conference made by disgruntled party members was yesterday dismissed with costs in the High Court in Johannesburg.
Following the five regional conferences held ahead of the provincial conference at the weekend, party members in Sedibeng and Ekurhuleni approached the courts seeking the nullification of their conference outcomes.
Ekurhuleni was dissatisfied with the re-election of Mzwandile Masina as chairperson, and also claimed irregularities leading to their conference.
But Judge Edwin Molahlehi was not convinced.
ANC Gauteng spokesperson Motalatale Modiba said: “We are pleased that the court ruled in our favour. We never had doubts and believed we had a [strong] case because the matter was never urgent ... but an attempt to try to derail the provincial conference.”
Gauteng Premier David Makhura is expected to be elected chairperson unopposed. There is, however, fierce lobbying for deputy chairperson.
Possible candidates include former Tshwane mayor Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, economic development MEC Lebogang Maile and former Johannesburg region chairman Parks Tau.
The conference will be held from tomorrow in Irene, Pretoria. – ANA
