South African cricket is on a steady decline

Peter Scrimgeour.

As a typical sport mad South African it was wonderful to watch the feast of sport that has been available to us over the last few weeks. Unfortunately, I need to agree with Eugene Clemen (July 24).

What has happened to SA cricket?

We have always been a force to be reckoned with on the field. We have always toured these countries, it is nothing new.

The worst part is that the oldies should be showing the young guns the tricks.

There seems to be a miscommunication somewhere along the line.

You are picked to represent your country. You are not always expected to win but that presentation by the core team was disgraceful.

If you worked for a company (which you do) you would have been fired or at least severely reprimanded and warned, if not disciplined.

This is not only meant for the players. It stands to reason that the backup staff, selectors and management are all not doing their jobs.

Would you want to be part of that team?

We always seem amazed that games are so poorly attended. I wonder why? How much is a Test ticket nowadays, and should I buy for the first or the last day?

A new approach to payment and sponsorship based on performance is the only option in my opinion.
