Froome head­ing for Colom­bia

– Four-time Tour de France cham­pion Chris Froome will be­gin his 2019 sea­son at the Tour Colom­bia in Fe­bru­ary, the Briton has an­nounced.

The Team Sky rider won his third con­sec­u­tive Grand Tour ti­tle with vic­tory at the Giro d’Italia in May be­fore fin­ish­ing third at the Tour de France, which was won by team-mate Geraint Thomas.

Froome, 33, be­gan his 2018 sea­son at the Ruta del Sol in Spain but has de­cided to fol­low his Colom­bian team-mate Egan Ber­nal, who won the in­au­gu­ral race in his home coun­try this year.

“I’m very happy to con­firm my par­tic­i­pa­tion in the Tour Colom­bia, where I’ll be­gin my 2019 sea­son,” Froome said in a video mes­sage about the race that takes place from Fe­bru­ary 12-17.

“Many thanks to the Colom­bian Cy­cling Fed­er­a­tion for the in­vi­ta­tion.” –
