Aldo ready to strike again

Alan Greeff-trained Aldo has the right credentials to land his fifth career win at the Fairview Polytrack today when teamed up with Greg Cheyne and taking on six rivals in Race 7, a MR 98 Handicap over 1200m.

This ultra-consistent sprinter has yet to finish further back than third in his seven starts – four of which were decisive wins on the Polytrack. The only time this three-year-old competed on grass was in his penultimate outing when a well-beaten third in a 1200m MR 85 Handicap.

However, when switched back to the Polytrack next time and ridden by Cheyne again, the gelding made light of 58kg and scored by an increasing 1.75 lengths in a 1200m MR 88 Handicap.

With 1.5kg less to shoulder and having the advantage of pole position the gelding should complete the course and distance double.

His main threat is six-time winner Dawnbreaker (Raymond Danielson) out of Gavin Smith’s stable.

The pick of the others are Breakfast Club, Flight Captain and Miracle Bureau.

Smith-trained four-time winner Amazon King (Muzi Yeni) looks poised to strike in Race 2, a MR 80 Handicap over 1200m.

Next best are Seattle Oak, Lord Windermere and Counting Stars.

Another worth following is Greeff-trained Studio Blues (Cheyne) in Race 6, a MR 84 Handicap (F&M) over 1600m.

This four-year-old has hit peak form at the Polytrack with Cheyne aboard – winning three in a row and then finishing a close second. However, the filly recouped the losses in her subsequent outing when scoring fluently over 1600m
