Tefu move explained

-

A source has explained to

why former Absa Premiership players like Tefu Mashamaite (below) chose to play for amateur sides rather than teams in the National First Division, and for a low salary. “NFD teams can be exploitative and demanding yet their remuneration is not satisfactory. If you are a player with experience you are expected to produce magic. That is why these guys have refused to sign for them and opted for a low salary at amateur level. Someone like Tefu is very intelligent and cannot be easily exploited. The players are becoming more intelligent these days and won’t be used,” said the source. There has been a growing trend of exPSL players joining ABC Motsepe League teams across the country, which some feel is closing the door on youngsters who still need to prove themselves.

Veteran Modise could stay on

Teko Modise (above) could extend his stay at Cape Town City for yet another season. Modise, aged 37, is in the last six months of his current deal with the Mother City club. Head coach Benni McCarthy is fond of the veteran playmaker, and is said to be keen on holding on to him and his experience for as long as possible. “Benni likes Teko too much and they get along very well in terms of the football,” said a source. “The coach knows the importance of having experienced players in the team, even if they don’t play much on the field, they are a huge influence behind the scenes,” the source added.
