Dust will fly in round six

SA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSH­IP: HEADING UP THE SHOW WILL BE THE 450CC MX1 CLASS

All nine categories involved are taking part this Saturday at Phakisa.

The Free State Phakisa Motocross track will host round six of the 2019 TRP South African Motocross Championsh­ip this Saturday, with all nine categories involved taking part.

Heading up the show will be the 450cc MX1 class, where championsh­ip leader Matthew Malan (Q4 Fuels Husqvarna) will face off against riders like Tristan Purdon (Red Bull KTM), Lloyd Vercueil (Florstore OnTrend Yamaha), David Goosen (Monster Energy Yamaha), Husqvarna pair Wesley du Plooy and Cameron Odendaal, plus Royce Griffin (KTM).

Anthony Raynard (Tintswalo Yamaha) should be the man to beat in the 250cc MX2 class, challenged by Kerim Fitz-Gerald (Red Bull KTM), Joshua Mlimi (Red Bull KTM), Husqvarna duo Ricky Raaff and Slade Smith, plus Jason Vogelsang (KTM).

Over-40 KTM riders Brett Bircher and Craig Kruger will lead the MX3 charge with Ian Topliss (Out Of Africa Yamaha) in close proximity.

Tyson Engelbrech­t (KTM) is the top over-30 rider, ahead of Jonathan Hubbard (KTM) while Rodney Odendaal (Husqvarna) and Rod Bergstrom (Suzuki) will chase over-50 honours.

In Ladies’ motocross, Kayla Raaff (Husqvarna) needs only to score six points more than Natasha Rugani (KTM) to clinch the title. There is a close fight for third, between Jenna Bohlig (Husqvarna) plus KTM racers Yanke Pieterse, Tiegan Reed and sisters Jadene and Cheyenne de Lima. Dalton Venter (CIT Husqvarna) also has one hand on the 125cc High School title after winning the last eight motos on the trot.

Chasing him will be Arnu Saaiman (KTM), Christiaan Cilliers (Yamaha), plus KTM trio Tristan Grainger, Miguel de Waal and Thabo Verster. KTM racers Leonard du Toit and Blake Young should continue a season-long fight for the 85cc Pro Mini title lead.

Others to watch should include Nate McLellan (KTM), Dylan Kirk (KTM), plus Yamaha trio Bryce Petersen, Garrick Henley and Hayden Tully.

In the 85cc Junior category Seth Young (KTM), Deegan Bloomfield (Husqvarna), Timo Toepfer (KTM), Joshua Fletcher (Yamaha) and Pieter Brink (KTM) should fight for victories..

Neil van der Vyver (Q4 Fuels Husqvarna) leads the primary school 65cc championsh­ip from Jordan Van Wyk (Husqvarna), Liam Botha (Husqvarna), Trey Cox (KTM), Thor Johnson (KTM) and Damon Garrell (KTM).
