Sinoxolo’s sister’s success a big motivation

It might take some time, but University of the Western Cape (UWC) Ladies football team midfielder Sinoxolo Cesane (left) is adamant she will become one of the biggest assets in women’s football in the country.

Not blinded by her twin’s success – Noxolo Cesane has already represented the country at senior level – Sinoxolo believes that everything happens for a reason and she will also become a Banyana player one day.

Born in Gugulethu in the Eastern Cape, Sinoxolo knew from an early age that football was in her blood and her love and passion for the game made it clear to everyone she wanted to become a footballer.

“I want to be one of the best players in the country, that is my ultimate dream,” said the midfielder.

“I know that it is going to happen one day because I am always working hard at training and listening to my coaches. I have seen how my twin sister has become a good player over the years and she has already played for Banyana Banyana. That’s what I want also and seeing her progressing so well makes me happy and motivates me. Her success is my success and I am sure we’ll play together in the senior national women’s team.

“When I started playing football on the streets back at home I had dreams of playing at beautiful stadiums. I have seen that dream already materialising because I have played at many football grounds now. I remember I used to wish to see myself flying (on aeroplanes) while growing, now that I have flown so many times, flights have become boring for me,” she chuckled. “The next goal now is to go play professional football overseas, that’s what I am aiming at.”

Having already represented the country at Under-17 and Under-20 level, the UWC player says playing for the national junior teams has really improved her game, while getting to rub shoulders with different players from other provinces and working with coaches like Siphiwe Dludlu has really made a huge impact.

“At the national level, the competition is very high ... There are also good coaches in the national teams and they really help us to improve how we perform.”

Currently, in Grade 12, Sinoxolo takes education very seriously, even though football is one thing she likes the most. Her wish is to juggle football and education and wants to see herself studying further next year.

“As much as I love football, I also love education because I don’t think as players we should solely focus on football. That is why I want to study further next year after I pass my matric. I am going to work hard as well on books so that I can study achitecture next year,” she added.

“I have many dreams to fulfil, but I know that as long as I work hard on everything I want, I will achieve my goals.”
