Strong Challenge entry

DE KOCK, TARRY HAVE MIXED FORTUNES FOR BARRIER POSITIONS

- Jack Milner

Grade 1 winner Got The Greenlight among the entries.

Cascapedia won the Joburg Spring Fillies and Mares Challenge last year and she has been nominated to do the double in this Grade 2 race over 1450m on the Inside track at Turffontein on Saturday 5 October.

In fact, trainer Mike de Kock has nominated her for both the fillies’ event and the open Joburg Spring Challenge over the same course and distance.

These two races are the official curtain raisers to the Highveld Summer season which culminates with the running of the Gauteng summer Cup.

Cascapedia has not drawn well in either event but although the fillies’ race could be slightly weaker, with the sex allowance the Irish-bred filly will carry 56.5kg if they choose to race against the boys as opposed to 59kg in the fillies’ race. She has drawn No 17 in the open race and No 22 against her own sex.

De Kock has entered some of his top horses for the two races as he prepares his charges for bigger events and in the open race his entries include Barahin, who landed No 1 draw, Buffalo Bill Cody (No 25), Like A Panther, Noble Secret and Ehsaan.

Gin Fizz (No 7), Mawsool (No 9) and Risk Taker (No 2) are his other entries for the fillies race and as three-year-olds, they have all been allotted 50kg.

Champion trainer Sean Tarry has nominated a few of his top runners, including Chimichuri Run, Wonderwall, Social Order and top three-year-olds Eden Roc and Putonthegreenlight.

Tarry has also entered Sidonie, an impressive 9.50-length winners over this course and distance last Saturday, into the fillies race, and she has drawn barrier No 1.

Another exciting three-yearold entrant is the Joe Somatrained Got The Greenlight, who carries a 2kg penalty for his win in the Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes at Greyville.

However, he is drawn at No 3.

Also looking for a double is beautifully Captain Aldo, who won the open race last year.

Supplementary entries close at 9am on Monday with declarations by 11am on Tuesday.
