One World set to go a Cape Mile
RESISTANCE. CHARLES LIKELY TO CHALLENGE IN STRONGEST RACE ON THE CARD
Wild Coast making waves as a potential Cape Guineas hopeful.
Two Listed features highlight the Kenilworth card tomorrow. The Laisserfaire Stakes is a fillies’ sprint handicap over 1100m and in a wide-open affair where lightly raced Boomps A Daisy just gets the nod.
This Australian-bred fouryear-old has won her last three races down the straight in good style, while twice disappointing around the turn at Durbanville.
She still appears a bit ahead of the handicapper. With only 52kg and highly experienced Greg Cheyne up she should go very close despite a rest of five months.
Top weight Freedom Charter was the runner-up a year ago and made an excellent seasonal debut when also second in the Grade 3 Diana Stakes recently and can threaten despite 62.5kg.
The Woolavington Stakes over 2400m is a long-standing staying event on the Cape calendar.
Here Herodotus is first choice. He pushed classy Belgarion hard on his first appearance since gelding and now looks ready for this trip. He has substantial winning claims.
Man About Town is a lively danger. Piet Steyn’s five-year-old entire has scored three times over 2000m but disappointed the only time he tried this far as a three-year-old.
He now looks ready to cope and if so will be a big danger with 56.5kg and newly returned Aldo Domeyer up.
Strongest race of the day is the Cape Mile, which lacks black type status because it has only been in existence for a couple of years.
One World stands out on form but can expect serious resistance from Charles, who could not have been more impressive last time in his first run after gelding.
Best bet on the card, however, is a potential Cape Guineas hopeful.
Wild Coast is the first foal of champion filly Beach Beauty. Like his dam, rather nondescript to look at, this Trippi colt has thankfully also inherited the ability to quicken rapidly.
This was seen to good effect last time out. After momentarily looking in trouble 250m out, he cruised into the lead and Richard Fourie was able to ease down well before the line.
He meets a few other improvers in Race 4, a MR 78 Handicap over 1600m, but carries that stamp of real class, and is an ultra-confident selection.
