Fire vs Ice in battle royale
POLO: HOOF IT TO INANDA
Johnny Walker scores a goal with polo sponsorship.
Have you ever wondered what happens when fire and ice clash? Research published by the Geological Society of America (GSA) warns that the interaction between fire and ice can have a serious impact on communities close to the activity, and that the resulting interaction can cause flooding, and even produce spectacular explosions.
Despite the GSA warnings, throngs of curious yet immaculately dressed spectators will gather at Inanda Polo Club tomorrow to witness fire and ice clashing in the Johnnie Walker Warrior Polo tournament.
Inspired by their Song of Fire and Song of Ice whisky range – a continued legacy of the brand’s relationship with the massively popular Game of Thrones books and TV series – the tournament will see team Fire and team Ice go head-to-head in a what’s expected to be a battle royale.
Johnnie Walker marketing innovation manager Thembeka Mgobozi said the brand is thrilled to announce their continued relationship with Game of Thrones, and the debut of their official partnership with the Warrior Polo tournament.
“[This] forms part of our pursuit of breaking boundaries and this partnership highlights that,” Mgobozi told The Citizen.
Johnnie Walker’s A Song of Ice is inspired by House Stark and exudes a crisp, clean taste, like the unforgiving force of ice, while A Song of Fire, with rich and spicy flavours of subtle smoke from the peated malts, is named for the dragons of House Targaryen.
Polo player Zompie Tsotetsi said: “We’re all really looking forward to this new format. It’s going to be an exciting way to wrap up our season.”
Already hailed as one of the country’s most promising players after being part of the 6-4 win against Nigeria last year, Tsotetsi will be contesting in the main exhibition match of the day.
“[This] is the perfect backdrop for our guests to strut their best fashion to great live music while enjoying a range of Johnnie Walker cocktails,” added Mgobozi.
The fast-paced polo match will be set to the pulsating beats of local artists DJ Kent, Fistaz Mixwell and Ayanda MVP, who will keep the celebration going all day long.
