Cane Cutters boss wants a form shift

Uthongathi FC coach, Johnny Ferreira (right) is a worried man, despite his team sitting pretty at the top of the GladAfrica Championship with a four point cushion. What worries the veteran mentor is that in the past two games his team have not been able to keep the standard they have set.

The Cane Cutters dropped four points as they drew at home against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and TS Sporting.

“Our team have got to realise that if you have set certain standards and you are happy with those standards – and we have been for the past 10 or 11 games – then you have to subscribe to those standards because anything below will disappoint you,” Ferreira told

Phakaaathi yesterday.

“You have expectation because of what you have set for yourself but you are not going to realise your expectations if you lower the standard. My suggestion to my players is that they haven’t won anything except for the eight games (in the league that they have won thus far).

“We may still end up drawing or losing another 10 matches and we will be back to square one. We have to get our feet back on the ground because there are still 18 matches left and many points to play for,” he added.

With four points from their last two games, Tshakhuma have leapt to third on the standings and Ferreira said from what he saw of them they are credible contenders.

“We now have TTM coming on very strongly. Ajax (Cape Town) and AmaTuks (University of Pretoria) behind us have only played 10 games. If AmaTuks win all their games they will be three points behind us. We have to wake up. We have got to get the balance between our attack and defending right,” said Ferreira.

He said he hoped the draws were an eye- opener.
