KYALAMI RACETRACK: TWO OFFICIAL RACES ON SUNDAY ARE TIME TRIALS AND HOT LAPS

- Andre de Kock

No lost love in brotherly battle between Paulo and Rick Loureiro in Class A.

Kyalami will host the Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series for the second time this year on Sunday. It’s part of the season’s final Bridgestone BMW Track and Race Day.

The event, hosted by Auto Bavaria Midrand in conjunction with Bridgestone and the BMW Car Club Gauteng. will host two official races, Time Trials and Hot Laps.

Sunday’s Class A championship battle should see Paulo Loureiro (Combined BMW F30 335i) square off against his brother Rick (Combined BMW F30 335i) and Stefano Martinelli (Dalucon Insulation BMW E90 335i), Adrian Dalton (Xtra Shoes BMW E46 M3 CSL), David Coetzee (ELKSA BMW E36 M3 Turbo), Bruce Turner (Promigen BMW E46 M3) and Carlo Garbini (Kimbo Coffee BMW E46 330 Turbo).

Class B should be a torrid affair with the likely overall champion to be crowned from its ranks.

Andreas Meier (#TrainedAmateurs BMW E36 STC) leads Jan Eversteyn (Bavaria 0.0% BMW E46 M3) by just eight points in both the class and overall title chase.

Mike Grobler (BMW E39 M5) lies third, ahead of Oz Biagioni (Bio Pool Maintenance BMW E46 M3), Len-Henry Gobey (LESAVERT BMW E86 Z4M) and JB Breedt (Triplicon Construction BMW E36 328i Turbo).

Class C should see Nek Makris (BMW E46 328i Turbo) leading the charge, and also in with a strong shout at the overall title.

Hoping to spoil his day will be

Shane Grobler (Mayfair Gearbox BMW E36 330i), Neil Reynolds (Valve Hospital BMW E36 M3), Renier Smith (#TrainedProfessionals E36 M3), Troy Cochran (Arrow Automotive BMW E36 M3), Shaun Lamprecht (Wildthings BMW E36 318is Turbo). Class E will see the return of Carlos Gameiro (Lapace Construction BMW E30 325i) taking on Nicholas van Zyl (Mike’s Auto Tune BMW E87 130i), Colin van Son (Bridgestone BMW E36 328i BMW), Manny Ribeiro (Bridgestone BMW E46 325i) and Nicholas Fischer (BMW E36 328i).

The Bridgestone Time Trial Series should see entries from Dawie Olivier (Ariel Atom), Kris Budnick (Dodge Viper GTS-R), Antonio De Freitas (Ford Mustang Shelby), Farhaad Ebrahim (Lotus Exige S), Leon Loubser (BMW E92 335i) and Pieter Zeelie (Toyota MR2 Supra).

One of this motorsport season’s best newcomers just has to be JP Nortje, who stepped up into the Mobil 1 V8 Supercar brigade after a number of seasons in a variety of club racing categories.

Driving his N4 Autocraft Chevrolet Corvette, Nortje was not intimidated by the vehicle’s serious power, and he ran in the front half of the field from the word go.

Two victories – one at Zwartkops and one at Phakisa followed – making him the only V8 Supercar rookie to score race victories in the last two years.

He is looking forward to even better things next year.

N4 Autocraft aside, Nortje’s rise was also made possible by Premier Consulting Services and AMTEC Lubricants & Race Fuels.
