Baertschiger to stake his championship claim

The Citizen (KZN) - - Racing Express - Larry Foley Singapore

– As the 2019 season winds down and with winners ‘all but’ guaranteed in the trainers’, jockeys’ and apprentice championships, it may be a podium finish among the trainers that holds most fascination in the final four meetings.

Mark Walker knocks in another premiership and Mike Clements runs a very credible second but Daniel Meagher holds onto third placing by just two wins from a pair of expat Aussies in Cliff Brown and Shane Baertschiger.

And it may be Baertschiger who is the danger to Meagher with plenty of winning chances today.

Vulcan looks a chance early in the card in Race 3, before both Athletica and No Regrets give him a chance to claw one back on Meagher in Race 5.

A four-pronged attack suggests the lanky Aussie holds the aces in Race 6, and while all have some hope on recent or best form, Aramaayo looks one of the better bets on the day after just missing at his Singapore debut.

Arnantara in the last race can send Baertschiger home a multiple winner but fittingly his biggest danger looks to be Lim’s Zoom for Dan Meagher and the race should be a beauty.

Dan Meagher will obviously not lie down easily and the ‘Son of John’ also has a strong book with perhaps Touch The Clouds his best runner in what looks a very suitable Class 4 affair over 1800m in Race 6.

Best Bets: Aramaayo Race 6, Win; Arnantara Race 8, Win; and No Regrets, Race 5, Value.

Jackpot: Race 5: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8; Race 6: 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12; Race 7 (1, 2, 5 and 8 and Race 8: 1, 2 and 3.
