Stay sun safe at the races
The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for this weekend when the third heatwave to hit Gauteng this season is expected.
According to the weather service, extreme temperatures, possibly reaching 40oC are expected until tomorrow with forecaster Vanetia Phakula urging people to take precautions.
Here are a few tips for staying safe in extreme heat:
Wear protective clothing such as long pants, longsleeved shirts and widebrimmed hats.
Use sunscreen with minimum of SPF 30 and one that offers broad-spectrum protection. Reapply every two hours, including on hands and feet.
Protect your eyes with sunglasses that block 99% or 100% of UVB and UVA rays.
Stay in the shade and limit exposure to the sun, especially between 10am and 4pm, when UV rays are strongest.
Stay hydrated with a minimum of eight glasses of water per day, preferably at room temperature.
