Sark can go one better

- Brendan Gaillard

The island of Sark has its own laws for its population of around 500 people but that will not concern most punters as they are only interested whether its namesake Sark can win Race 5, a MR 76 Handicap at Flamingo park today and clearly, he can.

This grey gelding has only one win to show in his 27 starts but has been getting closer to the winner recently and deserves a change of luck.

Trainer Gert Theron steps Sark up to 2200m and that could just be what this five-year-old gelding has been looking for.

Trainer Sarel von Willingh Smit let us down a bit last week, but we are sticking with Grecian Laurel to run well in Race 4 and his improving Master Kuyno could go very close to winning the last race.

Grecian Laurel may have just found the 1200m a bit short last week and is probably better judged on her run behind Phil's Power in October. This was a race in which she only finished 5.10 lengths behind and ran well above her current rating.

Jockey Mathew Thackeray gets an opportunity to recoup some of our losses on him last week.

Master Kuyno showed signs of inexperience on debut and will be suited to the step up in distance to 1200m but will also be taking the turn for the first time.

It may be worth taking some Swingers in Races 1 and 2.

Musaytara has improved since joining trainer Bill Human and can go close to winning the opening race but will need to fight off the challenge of Glad I Am. Our Moon Shadow and Burgundy Rose seem to be at their very best over this track and distance and should run very well in Race 2.
