Raising money not the only goal
– Brazil will not hold up a deal settling the final items of the Paris Agreement on climate change over a demand for more international funding for domestic environmental efforts.
Brazil Environment Minister Ricardo Salles has made securing more money for the country’s environmental efforts in the Amazon his top priority at United Nations climate talks in Madrid this week.
The talks are focused on setting rules for how the accord will be implemented.
“Yes, the minister has well-founded arguments for the case he is making. But this has no relation with the other topics of negotiation,” said Marco Tulio Cabral, the No 2 ranking diplomat at the summit.
