Bucs should be wary of Baroka

MOMENTUM: PIRATES BUOYED BY POLOKWANE WIN

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates clashes have certainly left some good memories in the past and surely their encounter today will have a special moment which will be remembered for some time.

One of the most notable moments in the history of the two clubs locking horns is the equalising goal by former Bakgaga goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke, who rescued a point for the Limpopo outfit with an incredible bicycle-kick to make it 1-1 in a league clash back on November 30, 2016.

Just last year, Bakgaga beat Pirates 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in Telkom Knockout to go on and lift the trophy.

However, at the moment, the tie at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium will be a totally new game and midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane is hoping for a win.

“What happened in the past is in the past now. A lot of things have changed, but one thing for sure that has not changed is the main objective for both teams going into this game which is to win the match. We want to win the match as much as they also want to win it,” said the midfielder.

“We have prepared well in the last couple of days and everyone in the team is ready to play. We are going out there to fight and get maximum points. It’s almost the end of the year and we want to go into the break having collected enough points to go up on the long-standings.”

Mdantsane knows that playing the Buccaneers won’t be quite easy to get maximum points. And he believes Pirates have a good team, but the main thing for Baroka is to focus on their game and make sure that they do their job.

“Of course it won’t be easy to get a win against them. They will come hard at us because they also want to improve on their log standings. They have been playing very well to be honest with you, but we are ready for battle. We trust and believe in ourselves.”

While Pirates will go into this match having won their last game 3-2 against Polokwane City, Baroka played to a goalless draw against Chippa United.

The home side are 12th on the log with 13 points, while Pirates are eighth with 16, just three points ahead of Bakgaga.
