Bucs’ defensive flaws
SQUANDERED: COACH ADMITS THAT THE DRAW FELT MORE LIKE A LOSS
Rulani Mokwena has admitted to Orlando Pirates’ defensive errors following the team’s 2-2 draw with Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The Buccaneers failed to maintain their 2-0 lead as they allowed Bakgaga back in the game leaving the two sides to share the spoils in an Absa Premiership clash.
Mokwena was disappointed with the way his side conceded the goals, which led to him saying that the draw feels more like a loss to him.
“Disappointing of course because it feels more like a defeat to be honest because we were leading 2-0, so it’s disappointing,” said the Bucs mentor.
“We obviously made a couple of mistakes, especially dealing with the throw-ins, but if you concede two goals you can’t say that you don’t have defensive problems especially with the way we conceded. It is what it is unfortunately - we conceded two goals.”
With the way things are going, the Buccaneers coach went on to add that consistency is a problem at the club having came into the Baroka clash after edging Polokwane City 3-2.
To add more salt to the wound Mokwena is under pressure to deliver for the Buccaneers, with some section of the supporters already thinking he is not the right man to lead the club.
With a lot of talk coming from the fans, the Bucs mentor says it’s something that he can’t control and Pirates controlled most part of the match until Baroka equalised.
“I don’t control that (fans’ opinions), I can’t speak about fans. I speak about what we can do. What we can do is try our best all the time. The Pirates fans know that one thing about us is that we give our best for the badge and we fight for the badge,” he continued.
“We have spoken about that (consistency). We are struggling to be consistent and pull through with two matches. But we are working on it and we just keep going. Unfortunately I don’t remember the goals and the type of football that was played. There was one team on the pitch to be honest until it was 2-1 and we showed pschological frailties but it is what it is.”
