Larsen has the touch against Downs
Polokwane City head coach Clinton Larsen (right) is one of the few coaches to have a decent record against Mamelodi Sundowns, having given Pitso Mosimane’s side tough times when he was at the helm of Golden Arrows, Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
However, Mosimane says he does not want to reduce Masandawana’s final Absa Premiership game of the year against Rise and Shine to his rivalry with Larsen. City are in Pretoria to take on the defending champions this evening at Loftus Versfeld.
“We are not playing Clinton Larsen, we are playing Polokwane City, we don’t want to make it that personal. We cannot compare how many times this one won and all that, it is going to sound petty ... if I want to be petty I can say I have won nine trophies in the last seven years and then we can count the other side so I don’t want to go there,” said Mosimane.
“The guy is a good coach and he is a brother. I am happy that a brother came back to the fold, it is better than some people taking the positions of my brothers here. Maybe he has got a good record but it is not important for me,” Mosimane added.
Larsen’s side have lost eight games on the trot and the Sundowns mentor hopes City do not turn around their fortunes at Masandawana’s expense.
“That is the difficult team, it is the team I don’t want to play against because every match they say they are going to turn it around. They have to turn it around with somebody and I hope it is not us.”
