Ice will crack it

- Ken Nicol

Ice Imperial has proven expensive to follow, but really should recoup some losses for her backers by winning Race 3 over 1400m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack today.

This Dennis Drier-trained Captain Of All filly has three seconds and a third in her last four starts and was only beaten 0.50 lengths on her only previous appearance on the surface.

She is well suited by the trip, perfectly drawn and faces largely well exposed and moderate rivals. If she can’t come out on top this time, then it really is time to give up on her.

The main danger is likely to turn out to be unraced Celtic Cat. She showed good pace in her barrier trial and is ridden by championship-chasing Warren Kennedy. Any betting support should be respected.

It could be a good day for welltried maidens, as Do Or Dare in Race 2 makes similar appeal.

This gelding has his first run for Frank Robinson, having moved over from Dean Kannemeyer. He returns to 1200m after a short rest but is another who seems to be in the right company and has a proven liking for the Polytrack. Bernard Fayd’Herbe should pick them all off if not too far out of his ground.

Chattertons Keeper looks most likely to give cheek.

He made good late progress for fifth place on his turf debut and now gets the services of Anton Marcus trying the artificial surface.

Kannemeyer himself should have his winning turn in Race 5.

Arrabiata loves the Polytrack and stayed on encouragingly for third in her first run out of the maidens.
