Lammerskraal putting class acts through the ring

-

Lammerskraal Stud have confidence in the quality of their Cape Premier Yearling Sales draft for 2020. "It's really good,” said Sally Bruss. “We have 10 at the sale, all beautiful specimens, half or full siblings to recently well-performed runners.”

The sale will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Thursday 16 January.

First through the ring for Lammerskraal will be Lot 34, Gimme Mist, by Gimmethegreenlight from Mizzen Mist. She’s a full-sister to well-performed Green Haze, who went down a short head in Saturday’s Grade 3 London News Stakes at Turffontein. “She’s athletic and balanced,” said Bruss.

Lot 39, Captain Of Grit, is a son of headline-making Captain Of All and Buran’s full-sister Nina Katrina,

by Western Winter. “He’s lovely, tall and full of quality,” Bruss said.

William Longsword’s daughter Poppy Of Bayeux (Lot 48) is described as “a very exciting prospect” and Bruss told: “She received a nine-and-a-half out of 10 from the inspectors and Kerry Jack of CTS came to look at her again last Monday.

“She’s an almost perfect foal from Path To Travel (Western Winter), a full-sister to Polar Bound and Bound To Travel.”

Lot 73 is from a well-proven Lammerskraal family. Named Blueberry Lane, she’s a nice chestnut filly by Var from Redberry Lane, just her second foal to go on auction. The dam is a full-sister to Gr1 winners Redberry Lane and Solo Traveller, and Gr2-placed Strawberry Lane. “She’s scopy and balanced,” said Bruss.

From the same family is Lot 104 Red Boulevard, by Visionaire from Strawberry Lane, mentioned above. “She’s a deep-bodied, strong and muscular filly. We’re fond of her,” Bruss noted of this first mating of the farm’s resident stallion with SA’s 2017/18 Broodmare of the Year.

Lot 125 is a “tall, leggy and racy” filly by the deceased star Dynasty from Grade 1 Woolavington winner Viva Maria. Named Ntinga, she’s a full-sister to the smart Sovereign Spirit, Viva Maria’s first and only foal to race thus far. “There’s plenty of potential here,” Bruss enthused.

Lot 137 is a bay colt by boom stallion Vercingetorix from Abound West (Western Winter). There are strong Lammerskraal family ties here again as his young dam is a full-sister to Polar Bound and Bound To Travel, and she was a decent racehorse herself. This is a first foal Bruss describes as, “a very nice type, deep and powerful.”

From another former Champion Broodmare comes Lot 140 Dancetildaylight, a daughter of Gimmethegreenlight and Fort Wood’s amazing Akinfeet, a prolific producer of top runners including stallion Capetown Noir (Western Winter), 11-time winner Across The

Ice (Western Winter) and this yearling filly’s full-sister In The Dance, the current top-level performer. “She’s very similar to In The Dance, well-balanced and athletic,” Bruss told.

Vegas Gold (Lot 151), is a colt by VAR, and the second foal of Grade 2 winner Bichette, who won four races for trainer Sean Tarry. The proven Lammerskraal bloodlines are again prevalent in his siblings Bruss said: “He’s a beautiful, quality individual by Var, a well-made colt.”

Finally Lot 186 is Gilded Gina, a daughter of Duke Of Marmalade and the smart four-time winner Dubai Gina (Dubai Destination), a Listed winner and Grade 1 placed daughter of leading international broodmare sire Dubai Destination. “She’s big and strong, with natural quality, a solid looker.”
