Gaba wants more goals

MHANGO: ITCHING TO GET AT DOWNS

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

It’s no secret that Gabadinho Mhango will be one of the key players in the Orlando Pirates team in their daunting clash with Mamelodi Sundowns and the striker is relishing the challenge as he looks to continue with his goalscoring form.

The Malawian international has scored five goals in the last three games for the Buccaneers including a hattrick in their previous game against Polokwane City. He is currently the League’s joint-top scorer with 10 goals to his name and he will be keen to be on the scoresheet again when they host the Pretoria outfit at the Orlando Stadium tomorrow evening.

“As a striker, my responsibility is to score goals and I enjoy that. I am really happy with the ways things have been going for me and I just want to continue scoring so that I can help the team do well,” said the striker.

“It’s a big game for us and we are all looking forward to it. We know it’s not going to be easy because Sundowns are a really good side, but we have been doing quite well lately – we just have to continue doing what we have been doing to get positive results.”

Having been clinical in front of goal recently, Mhango says extra training has helped him to improve. Finishing is something that he practices even when he is at home.

“I have put a lot of effort and training into improving when it comes to scoring goals. I work extra hard and make sure that I practice my finishing, even when I am at home I practice and it seems to be working out well for me,” he added.

“I think one thing that has also worked for me is getting good combinations and supply from my teammates. They have contributed a lot in terms of helping me to score goals and I am happy about it. We just have to continue with the way we have been playing and learning from our mistakes to make sure that we become consistent and make our supporters happy. The most important thing is that they have been there for us since the beginning of the season, even when things were not going our way.”

Since the beginning of the year, the Buccaneers have registered two wins and one draw in their last three games. They go into this clash with Masandawana sitting in sixth position on the log, having accumulated 24 points in the 16 games they have played to date.
