Washington will Trump them

- Germaine Maharaj

Things don’t look straightforward for punters at Hollywoodbets Scottsville today, but there is a standout Win bet in the form of the Andre Nel-trained Washington Square.

This gelding appears in Race 6, a modest MR 69 Handicap over 1000m. He goes extremely well for 4kg-claiming apprentice Jabu Jacobs and impressed last time when only beaten 1.30 lengths in much stronger company despite hanging and shifting in.

This son of Seventh Rock has taken on a new lease of life since trying the minimum trip and is an extremely confident selection to score a third career win.

He also serves as an obvious anchor for exotic bets.

Another to appeal is Rise in Race 8, a moderate Maiden Plate for females over 1950m.

This Paul Lafferty-trained three-year-old Noble Tune filly met males last time and stayed on solidly for third over 200m shorter behind what looks a reasonable type in Han Solo.

Calvin Habib partners her again and as this trip should be even more to her liking, she should prove too strong.

Captive Gold is the primary threat. She was an odds-on flop last time and presumably wasn’t suited by the Polytrack.

Anton Marcus sticks with her, so clearly agrees she is far better than that and looks capable of giving our selection plenty of cheek.

Strongest event of the day is a Progress Plate over 1750m, Race 4. But unusually for a weight-forwins race this looks wide open.

Williams Land isn’t well in on paper but still makes a narrow first selection. He was a well-beaten third to GG’s Dynasty last time in his first Scottsville appearance, who won a Listed race to give the form a boost.
