FLAIR: UK MAESTRO’S ABILITY CAN DO THE TRICK FOR RAINBOW BRIDGE IN THE SUN MET

- Muzi Yeni

Punters will have the opportunity to bet into massive TAB pools.

Sun Met day is finally upon us, and as expected, promises to be one of the most incredible spectacles of racing. The very best horses we have to offer will be showcased to the world and punters will be able to be into some massive betting pools. The Pick 6 pool will kick off with a R4-million carryover and the is expected to reach a staggering R18 million.

We are also most fortunate to see one of the world’s best jockeys in Ryan Moore participate in the R3-million race over 2000m at Kenilworth.

This year’s field is one of the strongest and my focus will be on defending champion Rainbow Bridge, L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Vardy and superstar Hawaam.

Rainbow Bridge is my first choice and although he and Vardy have both had great preparations, I think Rainbow Bridge will turn the tables on him over the extra distance.

There is no doubt Hawwaam is a champion and I would put a line through his last run. On collateral form, he should have been a lot closer last time and I am sure he is better over the 2000m.

I would be surprised if one of these three horses doesn’t win, but for Quartets I think either One World or Twist Of Fate could fill the fourth place.

The opening race of the card is wide open but I would structure my bets around the unexposed horses Diva’s Express and Meet At The George. With natural improvement they should fight out the finish.

Race 2 is the opening leg of the BiPot and for the smaller players, I would take a chance and banker Radiant Love. He ran on strongly in his last start and will appreciate the extra 200m.

Parktown looks the obvious danger.

I believe Race 3 will be fought out by Pray For Rain, Erik The Red and Joseph Barry. All three horses look progressive and I’ll be disappointed if they don’t contest the finish.

On ratings Sarah looks very hard to beat in Race 4, the CTS 1200 worth R5-million. She is 4kg better than the next best rated horse and I think she could be worth bankering in smaller Pick 6s.

I think all of Alramz, Putontheredlight and Cartel Captain must be included if you want to go wider.

Race 5 is the CTS 1600m, the second Non-Black Type race worth R5 million, and looks to be a three-horse affair. Got The Greenlight is all class and definitely needed his last run. If he is close to peak fitness he will be hard to beat but the dangers come from the Justin Snaith stable in Wild Coast and Sachdev.

These three horses should be good enough to get you through all bets.

Race 6 is the Grade 3 Politician Stakes for three-year-olds over 1800m, and is a very open event. So go as wide as you can in all your bets. I think the winner will come from either Sir Michael, Bag Of Tricks or Silver Host.

Race 7, the Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship, is a very interesting race. Unbeaten Run Fox Run looks to be an outstanding racehorse and I think she will be able to take the step up to Group 1 level in her stride.

Her main dangers will be multiple Group 1 winner Kasimir, and Chimichuri Run.

I think Race 8, the Bidvest Majorca Stakes, will be fought out by Queen Supreme, who was ultra-impressive when winning the Paddock Stakes last time out, and equally impressive Sceptre Stakes winner Celtic Sea.

These are two of the best fillies around and I find it difficult to look past them. Clouds Unfold and Front And Centre should fill the Quartets.

I think Doublemint is going to be very hard to beat in Race 10, the Grade 2 New Turf Carriers Western Cape Stayers over 2800m. He is definitely a better horse after gelding and will enjoy the step up in distance.

Atyaab, Tap O’ Noth and Snapscan are the dangers.

I like the look of The Vow in Race 11. Richard Fourie has chosen to ride her so I would think she would be the stable elect.

It’s a minefield after that, but include all of What A Flirt, Academic Gold and Halliberry in your bets.

The final race on the card is also difficult but I’ve narrowed it down to the young improving horses in Double The Fun and Veratrum.

Both will appreciate the longer distance and with natural improvement, they could be too good for this field.

After that I think Over The Odds and Black Belt could fill minor places.

We are also racing at Turffontein today and for those who will celebrating the Met at Jozi, I think the following two horses will run well and bets can be structured around them.

In Race 3 my stable’s horse, Kool Baikal, is doing well and he should run a big race.

In Race 7 I think Marshall will be hard to beat. He was disappointing in the Dingaans last time out and has since been gelded.

Jumping from a good draw he should show how good the stable think he is.
