Stellenbosch FC looked like surefire relegation candidates for much of this season, but a remarkable turnaround in January means that Steve Barker’s side now have five teams below them in the Absa Premiership table, albeit that they began February with a 2-1 loss at Black Leopards.
Striker Iqraam Rayners missed his side’s first two league games of the new year with injury, and it is now coincidence that they lost them both, but he returned to help spark a run that saw the Cape side win three in a row.
That saw them taking down Baroka twice, and beating Highlands Park, in a game in which the 24 year-old scored a brace. Stellenbosch fans should enjoy Rayners while they can – he has already signed a pre-contract with SuperSport United for next season. KEYWORD: RAYNERS
