Tycoon’s whisky collection on sale
– Some of the world’s rarest and most expensive whiskies went on sale last Friday in an online auction of a private collection amassed by a former Pepsi bottling company executive, the late Richard Gooding.
Whisky Auctioneer said its Perfect Collection included 100-year-old bottles believed to be worth more than £1 million (about R19.4 million).
The 3 900 bottles mostly comprised single-malts that will be sold in two lots.
The first 1 949 are to be auctioned over 10 days from Friday and include a rare Macallan 1926 Valerio Adami 60 Year Old. The second batch will be available from 10 to 20 April.
“It is the diversity that is the most exciting aspect,” the auction house’s founder Iain McClune said.
