Ty­coon’s whisky col­lec­tion on sale

– Some of the world’s rarest and most ex­pen­sive whiskies went on sale last Fri­day in an on­line auc­tion of a pri­vate col­lec­tion amassed by a for­mer Pepsi bot­tling com­pany ex­ec­u­tive, the late Richard Good­ing.

Whisky Auc­tion­eer said its Per­fect Col­lec­tion in­cluded 100-year-old bot­tles be­lieved to be worth more than £1 mil­lion (about R19.4 mil­lion).

The 3 900 bot­tles mostly com­prised sin­gle-malts that will be sold in two lots.

The first 1 949 are to be auc­tioned over 10 days from Fri­day and in­clude a rare Ma­callan 1926 Va­le­rio Adami 60 Year Old. The sec­ond batch will be avail­able from 10 to 20 April.

“It is the diver­sity that is the most ex­cit­ing as­pect,” the auc­tion house’s founder Iain McClune said.
