Skidoo looks in control

The Citizen (KZN) - - Racing Express - Ken Nicol

Skidoo could be the answer to a tricky MR 96 Handicap over 1000m at Kenilworth tomorrow.

This Paul Reeves-trained gelding has scored all four wins over this trip and beat a similarly competitive field on L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate day a month ago, but his rating was only hiked by two points.

He carries a mere 52kg in Race 6 with Leon Tarentaal’s 2.5kg claim and consequently the speedy sort will take a lot of pegging back.

Tarentaal makes his comeback at this meeting after seven months off due to a broken fibula and could well be celebrating with a victory.

The Brett Crawford-trained Golden Tractor is rapidly improving and is the obvious class act. After three consecutive course and distance wins, he ran Cartel Captain close last time giving away 4kg – and that one was runner-up in the R5 million CTS 1200 on Sun Met day.

But as his merit rating was hiked to 106, he now carries a daunting 62kg and is a massive 9.5kg worse off with Skidoo who he beat by a mere short-head two runs back.

On the bare numbers he has no chance, but this is a very talented three-year-old and needs to be included in exotics.

Apollo Ace, Dragon Power and rejuvenated veteran Al Wahed are others worth considering.
