1900 – Boer War: Siege of Kim­ber­ley bro­ken by Bri­tish troops un­der Lieu­tenant-Gen­eral John French af­ter a 124 day siege. Kim­ber­ley de­fence led by Ce­cil Rhodes.

1933 – Pres­i­dent-elect Franklin D Roo­sevelt sur­vives as­sas­si­na­tion at­tempt but Chicago mayor An­ton Cer­mak is mor­tally wounded. He would die on 6 March.

2011 – Libyan protests be­gin op­pos­ing Colonel Muam­mar al-Gaddafi’s rule.

2018 – Cyril Ramaphosa is sworn in as SA Pres­i­dent, re­plac­ing Ja­cob Zuma.
