Will Railtrip end in disaster – or victory?

- Jack Milner

The outcome of Race 6 at Hollywoodbets Scottsville today, a MR 87 Handicap over 2400m, could well depend on whether the lone filly in the event sees out 2400m.

Gavin van Zyl-trained Railtrip has proven herself against the colts in races of this nature but the furthest she has been, and won over, is 2000m.

She is by Trippi who gives her the speed, but she is also out of a Galileo mare and seems to have given her some staying power.

One feels that if Van Zyl was confident she would stay 2400m he would have run her in races like the SA Oaks as a three-yearold, but he avoided them.

Despite the fact he has engaged log-leading jockey Warren Kennedy, it might be safer to go with a proven stayer.

Wildlife Safari might just be the answer.

While he has only had one run over the distance, it resulted in him finishing second to Twice Golden, who looks a decent staying prospect.

Wildlife Safari is a well-travelled six-year-old who began his career in Cape Town, moved to the Highveld and has now settled with MJ Odendaal.

He has only had six runs for Odendaal and although yet to win, half of those runs have been places.

Raymond Danielson rode him in his last two starts and is back in the irons for this event.

Twice Golden is also in this field but will meet Wildlife Safari on 4.5kg worse terms and will need to make even more improvement with a 4kg-claiming apprentice up if he is to keep Wildlife Safari at bay.

Paybackthemoney meets Wildlife Safari on the same weight terms so Odendaal’s charge should still have the edge.
