Summer Pudding and Ikigai chase the crowns

DANGER: TARRY HAS NOMINATED DINGAANS WINNER SHANGO FOR SA CLASSIC

-

Peter-trained filly will have to contend with wide draw.

As expected, both Ikigai and Summer Pudding, winners of the Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas and Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas, have been nominated to run in the respective second legs of the SA Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara at Turffontein on 7 March.

The SA Classic and the SA Fillies Classic are both Grade 1 races and will be run over 1800m on the Standside track.

But while Sean Tarry-trained Ikigai drew well at No 4, Summer Pudding has landed No 15 draw of the 22 entries.

Tarry has a further ace up his sleeve in Dingaans winner Shango who was favourite to win the Gaut- eng Guineas but was scratched on the day prior to the race. Unfortunately, he landed No 13 draw of the 19 entries.

Tarry has also entered Rock The Globe who is drawn at No 11.

Mike de Kock will be delighted that Frosted Gold, runner-up in the Gauteng Guineas, has landed No 3 draw. He felt the New Zealandbred grey gelding was still short of a run going into the Guineas and was delighted by the manner in which his charged stayed on, going down 1.75 lengths.

De Kock has also nominated Marshall who, if he runs, will be having his third outing after having been gelded. However, he has been drawn No 15.

Paul Peter-trained Summer Pudding will undoubtedly benefit from the extra 200m as she tries to win the Triple Tiara but she will have to contend with the wide draw.

Interestingly, Tarry-trained Victoria Paige, who was drawn widest of all in the Fillies Guineas but only went down 0.75 lengths to Summer Pudding, has drawn No 12 but this time will have Summer Pudding on her outside.

Stephen Moffatt-trained Rio’s Winter, a neck runner-up in the Fillies Guineas, this time will have the benefit of No 1 draw.

There will be a supplementary entry stage on Friday with final declarations on Monday 2 March.
