DStv misses trick during extended lockdown

You would have thought they would make our isolation more bearable, writes Gordon Armstrong.

Over the past five years, DStv have experienced a steady decline in subscribers so you would have thought that the Covid-19 pandemic would have been an ideal opportunity for them to step up to the mark and introduce some new viewing fare to entertain their millions of viewers during our extended lockdown.

What did they do to make our isolation more bearable?

Very little, indeed. Channel 123, the best of British ITV, was cancelled, as was 108, the Sundance film channel.

Now we are told that channel 114, the inaptly named “binge” channel, will be removed as well.

Mind you, I never really understood how watching two episodes of Watchmen once a week was classified as.

As for the rest of the channels, we are continually subjected to multiple repeats and episodes that are aired several times a day.

The standard of their film offerings are usually B-grade with a smattering of A-grade movies which they then proceed to flog to death by way of continual repeats.

Given that the majority of MultiChoice subscribers are only watching it for the sport and that there is precious little of that at the moment, you would have thought that they would have upped their game during this lockdown.

As a premium subscriber, I am utterly disgusted with MultiChoice’s disregard for their customers and so as soon as I can get a decent, uncapped Internet connection, it will be goodbye DStv and hello Netflix, Amazon, etc.
