Ajax CT off on a positive note

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

A dramatic start in the PSL relegation/promotion playoffs saw Ajax Cape Town beat Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) 3-2 in a nail- bitting clash at the Rand Stadium yesterday.

Having taken the lead first, Ajax had to come back from a 2-1 deficit, to win the match 3-2.

It was a lively start from both sides, but the first great opportunity to get on the scorrsheet fell to Ajax when Eleazor Rodgers (above) flicked the ball to the back post for Abednico Mosiatlhaga, but the midfielder’s header sailed over the bar in the 14th minute.

The midfielder was becoming troublesome to TTM as he found himself with another opportunity in the 22nd minute, but this time his deflected shot went wide.

The Limpopo outfit didn’t really get clear-cut chances in the first 45, with Ajax the better side as the teams headed into the break goalless.

The Urban Warriors were at it again in the second half, putting more pressure on their opponents. looking for the opening goal.

It didn’t take long for them to get into the lead, as Rodgers placed them in front with a header from Thandi Mukumela’s cross just two minutes into the second half.

The lead didn’t last long though as TTM replied in the 58th minute to level matters thanks to Thembisani Nevhulamba.

Tshakuma found themselves in front in the 69th minute via defender Tebogo Thangwane.

Ajax were desperate for an equaliser as they started throwing numbers up-front, but the good goalkeeping from TTM shot-stopper Simon Mamudzidi kept them in the lead.

It wasn’t until the 79th minute that Ajax got the breakthrough they were looking for. with substitute Sonwabil Mfencane making it 2-2.

There was more drama five minutes later as another substitute. Keagan Johannes. put the Urban Warriors back in front with a beautifully taken volley from a corner. which ended up giving the Cape Town-based club maximum points in their quest to get back into the top- flight.
