Dettori aboard Irish Derby winner in St Leger

-

Frankie Dettori will partner Irish Derby hero Santiago in the Pertemps St Leger on Saturday after 12 were declared for the final Classic of the British Flat season.

Ryan Moore will be at Leopardstown riding Japan in the Irish Champion Stakes, which allows Dettori to come in and renew his partnership with Aidan O'Brien.

Santiago is the 11-4 joint-favourite for the St Leger and will be bidding to bounce back from his Goodwood Cup disappointment, in which he finished third behind Stradivarius.

O'Brien will also be represented by Mythical, who will be ridden by Derby-winning jockey Emmet McNamara, while Dawn Patrol will be partnered by Padraig Beggy.

Joint-favourite Pyledriver will bid to give William Muir his first Classic success as a trainer. The son of Harbour Watch, who cost just 10,000 guineas (R235,000) as a foal, has already landed two Group 2s this season, with victory in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot followed by a 3.50-length triumph at York in the Great Voltigeur that marked him down as a serious St Leger contender.

Hukum will line up for Owen Burrows and is another who has progressed nicely this season, winning both starts and last time taking the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in taking fashion.

Galileo Chrome has been well backed all week and is set to take his chance for Joseph O'Brien, while English King looks to get his career back on track for Ed Walker, with Tom Marquand back on board for the first time since his Derby Trial win at Lingfield.

Subjectivist was a 15-length winner at Goodwood less than a fortnight ago and will attempt to give Mark Johnston a first St Leger win.
