Moriera to sell his ‘sole’

– Racing returns to Happy Valley for an eight-race card today and, typical of racing at the city circuit, the card looks super competitive, in turn ensuring quality entertainment.

Karis Teetan endured his best campaign in the saddle last season, bagging 93 wins to finishing a clear third on the premiership ladder while also snaring his second Hong Kong Group 1 aboard Mr Stunning in the 2020 Chairman’s Sprint Prize.

Teetan boasts seven rides to rivals Zac Purton and Joao Moreira’s full book of eight, and we turn our attention to ‘Magic Man’ Moreria to boot home one of the better bets on the card.

Moreira reacquaints with trainer John Size’s maiden four-year-old Sell My Sole in the Class 4 1200m in Race 7. Moreira partnered him in his first two career outings.

At start number three, Sell My Sole sat second in running throughout at this track and distance in a race that was run faster than average in the early stages. With the pace set up for backmarkers, Sell My Sole’s effort to hold for second, beaten a neck margin, suggests plenty of merit to the run.

Speaking of barrier No 1, Lightning Steed on the seven-day backup looks a speed map special in the Class 3 1650m coming up in Race 5.

Lightning Steed was sent out favourite under Moreira at this track and distance last week but struck a farcical run race which saw him sit second and fade late into fourth, beaten 2.50 lengths.

Fownes has been successful racing his horses on the quick back-up and Lightning Steed should be a good price with Moreira out of the saddle and Matthew Chadwick in.
