Ajax want to keep their noses ahead of Leopards

- Tshepo Ntsoelengoe

Ajax Cape Town will be looking to move three points clear at the top of the promotion/ relegation mini-log when they battle it out with Black Leopards at the Rand Stadium this afternoon.

Both clubs are locked on six points with the Urban Warriors sitting at the summit of the three team log due to a better goal difference.

Ajax desperately need to win this game to increase their chances of getting promoted to the top- flight with this match being their last in the playoffs, while Lidoda Duvha still have to play Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM).

The Urban Warriors have registered two wins and one loss in the playoffs, which came at the hands of the very same opponents they play today.

But, coming off an impressive 5-1 victory over TTM in the last game following an emphatic comeback from 1-0 down, Ajax will surely be high in confidence.

Coach Calvin Marlin (below) knows the importance of this clash and said it’s all about getting maximum points so that they can put Leopards under pressure as they head into their last fixture.

“It’s a big game for us on Friday (today), a must-win for us. We have to get a positive result. I am not going to say how many goals we need, but if we just get a win, take three points and put pressure on Leopards to get a big win in their last game, then that’s ideal,” said Marlin.

As the standings look at the moment, Ajax only need to make sure that they get a victory against Leopards to gain a three point lead, and if that is the case, Lidoda Duvha will also have to ensure that they beat TTM in their last game to level their points tally with the Mother City-based outfit.

The winner of the playoffs will then be decided on goal difference.

Ajax currently have a plusfour goal difference, while Leopards are a single goal behind on plus-three.
