Chiefs forced to play waiting game
CAS: HANDS TIED BEHIND THEIR BACKS PENDING COURT RULING
Kaizer Chiefs were yesterday awaiting to get correspondence from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the outcome of their appeal against a transfer ban.
The Amakhosi hopes of winning the appeal were raised this week after Zambia’s Nkana FC won their appeal and have been given the green light to sign new players.
Nkana were handed the ban following a dispute lodged against them by their former Ghanaian goalkeeper who was not paid what was due to him by he Zambian giants.
But the club managed to reach an agreement with the player, agreeing to pay him in installments and on receiving the necessary documentation that proved the agreement, the ban was lifted.
Amakhosi lodged their appeal early this month and are now waiting for the outcome, which was originally expected yesterday.
The Naturena-based side were handed a two-year transfer ban after they were found to have acted inappropriately in their dealings with Madagascar side, Fosa Juniors over the signing of Arohasina Andrianarimanana (pictured) back in 2018.
Amakhosi are believed to have failed to compensate Fosa Juniors believing that the contract that Adrianarimanana had with the club was not a professional one, as they are a semi-professional team.
But the Malagasy club took the matter to Fifa and a ruling was made that Chiefs had handled the transfer inappropriately and were slapped with the ban.
Chiefs spokesperson Vina Maphosa told Phakaaathi Plus yesterday that there had not been any communication from CAS as yet.
“There is nothing for now...I will alert all once we have some idea,” he said.
It would be disastrous for the Naturena side if they don’t get a positive response, as they look to rebuild the team under new coach Gavin Hunt.
The side are beleived to have already lined up possible targets for transfer but cannot proceed.
