The BMW money can’t buy

Meet the Agya, the most affordable vehicle to wear a Toyota badge.

Positioned below the recently launched Starlet, the Agya replaces the outgoing Aygo. And the good news for budget-conscious buyers is that starting at R178 600, the Agya undercuts the Aygo on price.

Similar to the Starlet, which shares a platform with the co-developed Suzuki Baleno, the Agya is a collaboration between Toyota and Daihatsu Motor Company which produced the Daihatsu Ayla eight years ago.

Tipping the scales at 835kg when equipped with the fivespeed manual gearbox and 855kg with the optional four-speed automatic, the Agya boasts a ground clearance of 180mm and derives motivation from a normally aspirated 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that punches out 49kW/89Nm. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 4.8L/100km for the manual and 4.9L/100km for the automatic.

Spec-wise, the Agya line-up comprises four models with all coming as standard with 14-inch alloy wheels including a 14-inch steel spare, colour coded bumpers, door handles and electric mirrors, projector-type LED headlights, an integrated bootlid spoiler, all around electric windows, dual front airbags, air-conditioning, ABS and EBD, remote central locking and a two-speaker sound system.

The main difference though is the actual audio itself with buyers having the option of fitting a prewired aftermarket unit or opting for the in-house double DIN.
