Charismatic Ace wins hearts, minds

- Mbekezeli Mbuli

Could Ace Magashule be the next president of the ANC?

This is a question on many lips, especially in Nkomazi, Mpumalanga, after the ANC secretary-general won the hearts and support of thousands of party members in this subregion on a campaign visit.

Oozing charisma and charm, he told party members and supporters to always put the organisation first and to refrain from worshipping individuals.

“Follow the organisation as people alter all the time ... but the ANC is constant.”

He was in Nkomazi to campaign for ward councillor candidate Thandeka Mkhathswa for the by-election next Wednesday.

He told the crowd he has instructed the Nkomazi mayor, Johan Mkhatshwa, to “give our people land. Give youngsters land, bring them together and help them form cooperatives, because we want them to be rich in this lifetime.

“And when you do this, don’t just give them land, empower them with implements so they can work it.” –
