Gin Fizz to bubble up at Fairview

Gin Fizz was always highly regarded by Mike de Kock but she has not been the easiest fi lly to train or ride.

The daughter of Soft Falling Rain makes her first appearance for trainer Alan Greeff in Race 8 at Fairview today and one has the feeling that if she takes to the Polytrack, she will be almost impossible to oppose in this Conditions Plate for fi llies and mares over 1000m.

One does get the impression by the way she runs the Polytrack should suit her and De Kock would have had her working out on the surface at Randjesfontein.

She has raced five times over 1000m for one win and three places. It is also interesting to note that Greeff has removed the pacifiers for this run.

Unfortunately, she does have her foibles and she could lose ground at the start or play up at the gate so is might be better to back her up with La Bella Mia, who has a proven record on the Polytrack.

Greg Cheyne takes the ride and Gin Fizz will carry just 51.5kg. She has early speed and one is hopeful it will all work out.

Whatever the fate of Gin Fizz, Greeff looks to have a “good thing” in Race 2 where he saddles Africa's Gold.

Africa's Gold has been in very good form this season and is a course-and-distance winner. In a small field he is likely to make all the running once again.

Although he takes a jump in class, another runner with a massive chance is Gavin Smithtrained Jaeger Moon who runs in Race 6, a MR 74 Handicap over 2000m.

The Capetown Noir three-yearold does tackle some in-form rivals but the manner of that last win suggests he is well above his current mark.
